What will you find?

Meet your guide in the center of Cordoba, and set off on your walking tour around town. First stop is the magnificent Mezquita, a cathedral converted from an original mosque when the Christians conquered Cordoba in the 13th century. Modifications took place more than two centuries later, so the building’s original Gothic style is combined with Baroque and Renaissance elements. See the Cardinal's Chapel and its treasure – the monstrance of Enrique de Arfe – as well as an ivory crucifix of Alonso Cano plus countless sculptures and paintings.

Continue to Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, a site also called the Palace of the Christian Kings, built in the 14th century by Alfonso XI. Walk through the inside of the palace and see remarkable Arabian baths, Roman mosaics and a sarcophagus of marble from the 3rd century.

Originally there were four towers at the corners of the Alcazar, three of which can be seen still today: Torre de Los Leones, the oldest, which forms the entrance to the palace, the octagonal Torre del Homenaje and the round Torre del Rio. The fourth tower, Torre de la Vela, was destroyed in the 19th century.

As you wander through the Jewish Quarter, dating to the time of the Romans, look out for important monuments dedicated to the most important sons of Cordoba: Roman philosopher Seneca, Arabian philosopher Averroes and Jewish philosopher Maimonides.

Here you can also see Cordoba’s Bullfighting Museum and one of the few synagogues existing today in Spain, Cordoba Synagogue. Pose for photos in front of the landmark, and then continue to El Zoco, a market where traditional artisans paint and flamenco dancers practice. Your tour then finishes near the Mezquita.

Reviews & Ratings

  1. We so enjoyed the humor and the knowledge of Carlota, she was obvious very proud of her city and it gave us a little peek into the people who live there. She was most kind and considerate, made sure we all were together, even took us to the Taxi stand at the end. It was a morning well spent! Tom and Eunice Goodrich
  2. This was an amazing tour. We were absolutely delighted with our guide. She was very professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Cordoba.
  3. Really lovely walking tour. Not too arduous a comfortable leisurely stroll with a fun English speaking knowledgeable guide.
  4. Perfect
  5. We are ashamed to say that we could not remember the name of our guide but she was fantastic. So well informed and welcoming. She was giving information in two languages and so that we didn't have to wait around, sent us off to look at things while she gave a talk to the other group in their language which was brilliant. She was humourous and intelligent and we were lucky to have her do the walk with us. The instructions for the meeting place were confusing and we waited at the wrong place because we were given an address which wasn't correct. But the walk was so good that we got over that quickly enough. Would recommend this.
