What will you find?

Leave central Barcelona and travel west by luxury, air-conditioned coach to the Catalan town of Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, roughly 28 miles (45km) away. The small town’s claim to fame is the famous Freixenet Winery, where some of Spain’s best bubbly – known as cava – is produced.

Head inside the esteemed wine estate and learn about cava while hearing little-known details about the family-run Freixenet brand. Established in the early 20th century, Freixenet was originally run by a husband-and-wife team who made sparkling wine. Their son started to export the wine, and its popularity grew until cava was awarded the prestigious DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) classification – a mark of quality.

Watch an audio-visual presentation about cava production in the area on your wine tour, and visit the estate’s original cellar, built in 1922. As you walk, hear of the different grape varieties that are used and of the fermentation stages that convert the wine’s natural sugars into carbon dioxide – a stage that gives the wine its characteristic fizz.

Hop aboard a mini train and ride through the modern part of the wine cellar, seeing an exhibit that documents how cava production has changed over the years. Your tour of the cellars then ends on a high note, with a glass of chilled Freixenet cava.

Return to your coach and travel with your guide to the stylish seaside town of Sitges – Spain’s chic coastal resort. Pristine beaches, vibrant culture and a reported 300 days of sunshine each year, Sitges has long been a popular place with the Catalans. Enjoy a walking tour of the village, admiring sights like the Church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla – Sitge’s beachside place of worship – and then enjoy roughly 1.5 hours of free time to explore the town on your own.

Meet your guide at the pre-arranged time, and travel back to central Barcelona where your tour finishes.

Reviews & Ratings

  1. This was such a great tour! Visiting the wine cellar was a fun experience, something I have never done. One glass of cava is included but you can order more for a reasonable price. Sitges is breathtaking, you need to stay longer! Stayed an extra few hours w my friend and took the train back to Barce
  2. Thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Freixenet Wine Cellar, Excellent, enthusiastic guide and delicious cava!
  3. This was a great day. Got very tipsy at the first stop, the Freixenet winery, which put us in a great mood for the rest of the trip. Sitges is wonderful, but not enough time, as we were rushing our amazing seafood lunch that we ordered at one of the beautiful Restaurants along the beach. Another 30 - 60 minutes at Sitges would be perfect. Or not be like us and eat on the run.
  4. What a lovely way to spend a day away from Barcelona! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and the bus was clean and enjoyable. The tour is short and sweet ending with a wonderful glass of cava. Delish! Sitges was absolutely the highlight. A beautiful seaside town with old winding cobblestone streets and a real beach charm. Take this tour at the beginning of the trip because you will most likely want to find your way back to Sitges to spend more time!
  5. Fernando, the guide was excellent
