What will you find?

Leaving Madrid, relax on the 43-mile (70-kilometer) drive by luxury coach to Toledo, known as the city of three cultures, where Christians, Jews and Arabs lived together in harmony.

Your guided city tour takes you along the labyrinth of laneways winding through the medieval walled town. Your tour guide will point out the city’s Arabic, Mudejar Gothic and Renaissance architecture, evidence of the city’s Roman origins, Moorish influences and Baroque grandeur as the former capital of Spain.

View the medieval castle, with its storybook fortified towers, and the stunning Moorish architecture of Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue, Europe’s oldest synagogue.

Whether you’re an art lover or history buff, you’ll recognize the setting of Toledo from the majestic paintings by the 16th-century master, El Greco. Coming face to face with one of El Greco’s most impressive works, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, in the church of St Tome is a tour highlight. The painting features portraits of 16th-century Toledo’s most important citizens, dressed in late-Renaissance fashions.

Also visit the Monastery of Saint John of the Kings, built by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in the 15th century. Notice the courtyard cloisters and royal coats of arms in this classic example of Spanish Gothic Mudejar design. The tour then takes you to the former house and studio of a local sculptor at the Victorio Macho Museum, where you can see examples of the artist’s modern artworks and explore the lovely garden.

If you choose the full-day tour, you will visit the 13th-century Cathedral of Toledo, declared a World Heritage Site and Spain’s finest example of Spanish Gothic architecture. Also enjoy a panoramic tour of Toledo that takes in all the city’s highlights, from the river to the Alcazar fort, and pay an extended visit to the cathedral. Relax with a tourist-standard lunch of vegetable stew, veal and fruit salad, or indulge in a typical Spanish lunch of tapas, roast lamb, truffle cake with ice cream, accompanied by classic Spanish wine.

Tourist lunch menu (standard lunch):

  • Vegetable stew
  • Veal with green beans and french fry potatoes
  • Vanilla ice cream with fruit salad
Typical lunch menu (upgrade):
  • Appetizers and Castilian tapas
  • Roasted lamb with vegetables

Reviews & Ratings

  1. Bus was safe and comfortable. Tour guide, Carla, covered safety, history and logistical details effortlessly. I did not know the artist, Victorio Macho, so it was very interesting to visit his house and garden. Happily we did the full day tour, as the cathedral is too beautiful to miss! The walking was not too intense, even though the streets are a challenge. There were plenty of places to find a good lunch and rejoin the group. The damascene "factory" stop was a waste of time. I would recommend skipping that and rejoining the group after the lunch time, giving you a full 2+ hours on your own in the old town. Caution - most restaurants do not serve lunch until 1:30 p.m.!
  2. This tour was informative and well-designed. Unfortunately, we had rain but it was still terrific. If anyone has a handicapped friend, note that there is LOTS of walking on cobblestone streets with very little support for the infirm. We did the all day trip which is not necessary as the last stop after lunch is not much. However, the highlight of the day was our lunch on our own and we discovered a bakery that was superb!! Had we done the 1/2 day, we would not have had the FUN of being on our own in Toledo!!
  3. Anna did a great job of providing a lot of information and history from the beginning of the trip to the end. We got to see a lot and lunch was excellent. The stop in the factory at the end of the trip, and then the display floor is quite the racket. It's the only time allowed for shopping (no complaint that there was no time for shopping otherwise) and a bus load of people is ripe with opportunity.
  4. I took the full day tour, it was fantastic... Toledo is beautiful and has lot of places of interest.. I would reccomend don't go for the tour lunch as you will get some free time and explore on your own the local eateries and shops.. Also you get some time to walk around the ancient bridge and the river. They could have included a few more things in the second half other than the alczar which is essentially just a museum tour
  5. All around great tour, and the typical lunch( not tourist) was very good and worth the money. I do wish we had a tiny bit more free time to stop in a shop or two, would have loved to try the Marzipan which seemed very popular and was limited to the area. Did not find the stop at the beginning of the tour or end of the tour in tourist shops as obtrusive as I was worried about from other reviews, only 25 minutes in the morning and probably 25 in the afternoon stop as well....just enough time to grab a quick coffee, use the bathroom and maybe grab a souvenir or two. Would be nice to ad an extra hour to the tour and be able to spend that as free time in the city, though. Turned out to be a great way to see a wonderful city.
